Content Formats That Get Cited: Comparisons, Lists, Tables and FAQs
Which content formats AI engines cite: comparison pages, best-of lists, how-to steps, glossaries and FAQs, plus templates and freshness rules.

You'll be able to
- ✓Match content formats to the prompt types they answer
- ✓Build a fair comparison page and a “best X for Y” page from a template
- ✓Show freshness honestly with visible dates and real updates
- ✓Explain why fair treatment of competitors builds trust
The short answer
Match the format to the prompt. Comparison prompts pull from comparison pages and tables. “Best X” prompts pull heavily from listicles, mostly third-party ones. How-to prompts pull from numbered steps; “what is” prompts from glossary-style definitions. Show a visible, honest update date, actually refresh the content, and treat competitors fairly. Biased comparisons are easy for engines and readers to discount.
